Free-Hosting Sites

If you've had trouble deciding on where to get hosted, or are looking for a place to get hosted right now for your DBZ site and are undecided, then you're in the right place. Here I've compiled a list of some of the best sites which provide good hosting, as well as describe(from personal experience) their differences and so on. Enjoy.

Geocities-The crem-dala-crem of all free-hosting sites. If you don't know about this one, then you must live in a web cave.
Server: Ok-They have server problems just about every other week one way or another, but inleast they announce every error in their server status section.
Storage: 15 MBs-Pretty reasonable, but for upgrading you have to pay. That's a downer.
Web tools: Tons-Whether you're an HTML master or a 6 year old who just got on the internet, Geocities has a tool to create a site for anyone. Sorry, but it's the truth. Plus, the majority of their programs work quite well.
Overall rating: 8/10-Has alot of problems now and then, but let's face it: Geocities is the greatest site for a beginner. If you have no HTML knowledge whatsoever, Geocities is for you, without a doubt.

AOL Hometown-AOL's hosting service, Hometown is usable by any AOL member of any type (AOL Instant Messager,AOL itself,etc.).

Server: Good-Surprisingly, Hometown works alot better than AOL's actual server. Sites are almost never down due to server problems, and loading never seems to slow down.
Storage: 4-5 MBs-I'm not sure about this one, but it's somewhere between 4-5 MBs. Not very good, and as far as I know it can't be upgraded in any way, either.
Web tools: Puny-From what I've read, AOL has changed their web tools around a bit over the years. Right now, all you can use is Hometown Easy Designer, which has loads of problems with it and is rarely updated if you're looking for even a bit of originality. Their other "remarkable" program: 1,2,3 easy steps, a tool to create your site in seconds based on some basic info you give them. Ugh.
Overall rating: 5/10-Although their server is very reliable, AOL is one of the worst hostees to be with. As the thousands of people say, AOL truely sucks. The only people I recommend should use Hometown are true, 100% beginners at web design. Even after a visit here you shouldn't have to use this.

Angelfire-One of the two sites in the Lycos hostees. It's best to just join Lycos, then you'll be able to use both Angelfire and Tripod.
Server:Very good-Almost never down, loads quickly, and is maintained well. The only problems known by me is saving a page sometimes takes longer than it should (it says it's saved, but could take hours) and sometimes (but not often) it becomes impossible to log into your account, whether your name and password is right or not.
Storage: 5 MBs-Not much, but at the moment you can upgrade to 50 with no catch whatsoever. It's strange, but it's true.
Web tools:Few-They don't have many, but the ones they do work well. The basic editor is like Easy 1,2,3 Steps but a bit more customizable, and the raw HTML editor works quite well.
Overall rating: 7/10-I'd say Angelfire is very reliable, and a good choice for someone seeking a hostee with good space and some nice options.

Tripod-The second hostee of the Lycos Network. It's best to just join Lycos, then you'll be able to use both Angelfire and Tripod.
Server: Very good-Just like Angelfire, Tripod's server works very well without many errors. Ummmm....yep, no problems. And I don't just say that because I'm hosted by them.
Storage:50 MBs-Not too shabby at all, definetely.
Web tools: Enough-Not too many, but enough for anyone who wants to make a site. For someone wanting to do raw HTML, they even have some helpful tools to pick colors in HTML and get things like guestbooks and other stuff right from the editor. Pretty sweet.
Overall rating: 8/10-Somewhat better than Angelfire, I recommend Tripod to someone with a bit of experience on their side. If that's what you have, then they're perfect for you.

Esmartstart-Not widely known, but is beginning to become used by more and more people. Has multiple names that you can choose from for your site's following name (i.e. yourname.a bunch of different options.com).
Server: Very good-Works with pretty much no errors ever, and goes pretty fast, too.
Storage: 100 MBs-Gives you ALOT of space, more than the average webmaster would ever need. Only problem is all non-HTML files(like images, for instance) must be linked to one of your pages, or else it will be deleted. Oh well.
Web tools: puny-The only thing you can use is raw HTML, basically. That or use an HTML Editor you've downloaded yourself, like Dreamweaver or Front Page. Definetely a downer for beginners.
Overall rating: 6/10-Highly recommended for the advanced DB Webmaster, not recommended for any beginners. Beginners will see this and almost instantly become confused.
