So you've finally made your Dragonball site. Everything is up and running, but you're still looking for some more help. That's very understandable, and is why I've created this third and final Tutorial to help the DB webmaster in search of some helpful tips. Most of these tips come from personal experience, and some of them are just the thoughts that pretty much all of the DB web community agree on. Also bear in mind that the majority of these apply to the serious webmaster, not someone who just want to keep things simple. Enjoy.
Get HTML experience. If you ever plan to do anything advanced on your page, I GUARANTEE you you'll want/have to learn HTML. This is actually alot easier these days than most people let off, and you don't have to spend a dime to get the basics(and even more) down quickly. Here's an example: I learned most of my HTML all in one day, so I'm sure anyone else could. "Where can I learn it then, big shot?" you're probably saying to yourself right now. Easy. First, you've got Web Monkey. I didn't learn any of my skills there, but I've been there and it's really good. Then, you've got HTML Goodies. That's where I learned all I know, and is a great place to go for HTML beginners.
Don't become a walking advertisement. Lots of DB sites have ads, popups, and other annoyances just for their own personal gain. These become very annoying, and it seems only the webmasters themselves aren't bothered by them. The point is, DON'T GO AD AND POPUP CRAZY. Too many ads get annoying, and popups are just a total pain in the butt all together. So try to stray away from the evil popups, and stick to only a few ads, ok?
The shorter the addy, the better. No one likes a long site address, not even the webmasters themselves. Try to get a shorter address one way or another. One good way is to get your own domain name, but that costs money if you want the real deal(namezero.com and namedemo.com give one for free, but a frame with an ad in it is added to your page). The best (and fastest) way to get a shorter address is to get a free redirection or URL mask, and most people know the best place for that: CJB.net. Not only is it free, but no ads will show up whatsoever. Those guys sure are nice, heh heh. Anyway, the last way to get a shorter address is to use a free hostee that provides you with a short name right off the bat(like EsmartStart, for instance), make that into an entrance to your actual site, and then just advertise with the shorter address.
Reduce loading times. Most of you should know about this. The less things on the page, the better. Or to be more precise, the smaller the files on the page, the better. When you're dealing with your main page for instance, try to keep all the files on the page under 60 KBs in size, if possible. This will make the page load much faster, thus making people want to stay more. It doesn't seem like much, but every little bit helps.
Advertise, advertise, advertise. Contrary to popular belief, you can't just build a site and expect people to come out of nowhere. Just like any good idea, you must advertise in order for people to see it. One good way to do this is to try and get listed by search engines, but don't expect great results all the time with that. Another good way is to goto big DBZ sites, see if they are accepting linking submissions, and then try to get linked by them. My favorite way is to goto a large link database that links up alot of people, but still evaluates them.T he best place DB-wise: Anime Turnpike. I got listed there within two weeks, the best results I ever had.
Well, that's all people. All three Tutorials are now done! Hooray! Hopefully these have been informative to you,and have helped you in building your DB Fansite. Now,what are you waiting for? Go out and get working! Who knows, the next Dragonall Z site you build could be the new, hip DBZ site on the block.
